Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev highly appreciated the innovative low-floor tram of 71-410 model «R1», introduced by UVZ Corporation at INNOPROM 2014.
In addition, in the presence of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, at the booth of UVZ Corporation, an agreement was signed on cooperation in the field of urban electric transport between the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region, Yekaterinburg City Administration, open joint-stock company «Uralvagonzavod Scientific and Production Corporation», Gazprombank OJSC.
The new development of UVZ was also introduced to Denis Manturov, Industry and Trade Minister of the Russian Federation. He went inside the tram, sat down at the control panel. The Minister advised «to go to the international market with this car.»
Responding to a question, where did this unusual, «space» appearance of the tram came from, Alexey Maslov (OKB ATOM of Alexey Maslov has been developing the design of the tram) said that first of all we created relevant design: «The form is a crystal, a jewel in a metal rim. And a stone, because it reflects the city in which it will move. This means that the car will be perfectly integrated into any landscape – forest, industrial zone, any modern buildings. And the cabin reversely tilted is not just a design solution. Firstly, there is no need for the tram to be very streamlined, it is not Japanese speed train. The average speed of the tram in the city is 24 km/hr, and it can have negative aerodynamics at its mass. Secondly, due to this cabin, we increased visibility by 30%, allowing the driver to see people better sideways and in front. This greatly reduces the probability that an accident occurs and the person falls under the tram. We solved the problem of not just leadership in the Russian market. We’re talking about the entire UVZ Corporation and Uraltransmash entering the international markets. This can be Eastern Europe and South America. This tram can safely move in Melbourne. We compete with world leaders such as Alstom (France) and Bombardier (Canada), focused on their latest developments. Without false modesty, I believe that we are at least the competitors. It is nonsense for the Russian market».
R1 tram or «iPhone on Rails» meets the highest technical requirements of the time. It is more ergonomic, modern and efficient than western counterparts. Car type is shuttle, the body is made of composite materials, has a modular design, which allows installing a unique cabin for each city. Capacity of the car in different configurations is from 190 to 270 people.
On the part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the document was signed by the head of the department Denis Manturov. The agreement was also signed by the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev, head of the Strategic Initiatives Agency Andrey Nikitin and CEO of Uralvagonzavod, Oleg Sienko.
